Hydrogen equipment will operate along the rivers and canals of St. Petersburg

The Krylov Research Center plans to complete work on a hydrogen-fueled engine for a passenger boat by 2023. The development is ordered by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

According to Igor Landgraf, Chief Designer of alternative power plants and chemical current sources of the Branch of Central Scientific & Research Institute of Marine Electrical Engineering and Technology (CSRI MEET), FSUE Krylov State Scientific Center, in 2 years a passenger pleasure boat with a hydrogen-fueled engine developed by Krylov Center must put out to the rivers and canals of St. Petersburg.

The Krylov Scientific Center has other developments of alternative fuel engines, such as a power plant for microbuses. The designers are proud of their joint project with Gorelectrotrans: Russia’s first hydrogen-powered streetcar. “It is based on a batch-produced streetcar. The first one run on Moskovsky Prospect,” said Igor Landgraf and complained that such streetcars are not yet widespread.
