Russia plans to double LNG production in the medium term to 66 million metric tons per year, in the long term – to 100 million metric tons per year
This was announced by Aleksey Fadeev, Director for Work with Key Partners at ANO «Institute of Oil and Gas Technological Initiatives», at the Round Table «Standardization in the Field of LNG: Current Status and Future Plans».
According to Aleksey Fadeev, there are now more than 70 liquefied natural gas projects in Russia, to be at various stages of implementation, and its production amounts to 33 million metric tons per year. The Federal Centre has set the task of reach 66 million metric tons in the medium term, and the main goal is increasing the production to 100 million metric tons. The speaker added that this figure is comparable to the volume of LNG production, in particular, in Qatar.
According to Aleksey Fadeev, the market potential is estimated at
200–250 million metric tons if all the projects that are “on the map” are launched.
