Main zoological exhibition of the country takes place in St. Petersburg

ZooShow, the exhibition of house pets, started in EXPOFORUM on November 25. The event showcases thousands of animals – cats and dogs of various breeds, reptiles, ferrets, rodents, and even butterflies. Expressive shows, tasting of pet food and treats, photos with pets and prize raffles will be held on the main stage and at company booths.

The main attraction of the fall exhibit is ”Know THEM all” entertainment and education area. This area will host meetings with popular bloggers, breeders will present various breeds of cats and dogs, talk about the ways to keep different pets, and give advice on how to take care of your four-legged friends. Evgeny and Marina Rybaltovsky, hosts of the Zoocom Club YouTube Channel, will come to this zone to talk about the correct keeping of your pets, emphasizing the need for a careful and respectful attitude towards nature. “We need to develop the zoological culture: this is our main goal as people, who are not indifferent to the fate of our planet’s biological diversity. I think that keeping and breeding animals in captivity is one of the few ways to save the genotype of most breeds. While there’s still no serious talk of restoring natural forests, developing zoological awareness can help many small animal species survive if only in captivity,” Evgeny Rybaltovsky mused.

Several steps away from the learning zone are the PIT-o-STAFF – One Love! Festival, organized by the team of Helpdog SPb. Assistance to Pit Bulls and Staffs.” Participants of the festival share stories about American pit bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers, American bullterriers, present their organizations and discuss ways of helping pets looking for their homes. “Pit bulls are not at all aggressive toward humans by nature. These dogs were initially bred to hunt wild hogs. And it was only later that they were turned into fighting dogs,” Irina, a participant in the festival says. “Nevertheless, breeders would always make sure that the dogs were not aggressive toward humans.” Before fights, owners would exchange their dogs to check if they are aggressive toward strangers. If the dog attacked a stranger, it would be barred from further breeding, Irina said. Here you can also learn about the canine therapy pit bulls, dogs that help people with psychological problems adapt. Come here also to watch the dancing pit bulls and take a selfie with the pit of staffs.

The ZooShow presents more than 1,000 dogs under one roof. Some of them compete in various contests: dance with their owners, do tricks, run the obstacle course to earn medals for speed and dexterity. Others showcase their beautiful looks as they walk around the ring with dogs of the same breeds. This time there are almost 50 breeds represented here, including Jack Russell terriers, Siberian huskies, American bull terriers, Akita Inus, Dutch Kooikerhondje, Zwergpinschers, Shih Tzus, Beagles and others.

More than 200 cats of 20 different breeds participate in international exhibitions of clubs – Bastet, Amur-Neva, Varieta and Felicity. Chausies, one of the rarest breeds of cat in the world, came to the ZooShow as well. Most important in chausies is the first impression this cat produces. No one will be indifferent when they see this elegant cat with a wild beast’s eyes, who will approach you and rub against your legs purring quietly. Just think about it: one kitten of this breed may cost as much as a car!

The Safe House showroom, presented by the Cat Republic, recreates an apartment, which is safe and comfortable for pets. People come here to learn how to make the window safe to prevent the pet from falling out, and where to hide the electric wires from the cat that loves to chew on them. Dr. Anna Kondratyeva, a vet and owner of the Cat Republic, the first ever café for cats in Europe, shares the sad statistics: “In March, we treated around 50 cats that fell out of windows.” To avoid these problems. special stoppers must be installed on windows; mosquito nets do not help! Anti-Cat stoppers are light and strong, equipped with special locks: even the smartest cat will not be able to open it. Some owners go one step further and install an outdoor cage, a 3D setup that allows the cat to walk outside into the fresh air.

Another new project is the butterfly exhibition by Butterfly Park. In just a few minutes, visitors can find themselves on three continents and learn about the butterflies that live there. A representative of the Butterfly Park says that their goal is to promote a humane attitude to living nature. “We explain to our guests why you should not grab a butterfly by a wing: each wing has almost 15 million tiny scales that cannot be damaged. When they are damaged, the butterfly cannot fly,” she said. One of the butterflies at the exhibition is the Blue Morpheus, a species that is considered sacred by Native Americans. The legend has it that if you look at this butterfly and make a wish, it will necessarily come true.

The pavilion also presents an exhibition of ferrets, Rodents’ Holiday Exhibition and Show, the exposition of reptiles, insects and agricultural animals.

As usual, ZooShow will sell numerous products: cages and pet carriers, pet care items, vitamins, high-quality feed and new products of the zoological industry. Pets are welcomed to a Pet Restaurant where they are treated to various types of feed and treats.

Children will enjoy an entertainment program, which includes pony rides, fun games, a soap bubble show, and performances with participation of animals.
