A Music Passage is arranged in Expoforum

The first two sculptures (of classical composers Mozart and Shostakovich) by St. Petersburg sculptor Arutyun Akobyan have already taken their places in the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Centre. The solemn opening ceremony took place on September 21, 2021. The Music Passage project continues already established cultural traditions of the venue. The heroes have not been chosen by accident.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of those classical composers whose pieces are performed most often in the world. There hasn’t been a monument to this great Austrian composer in St. Petersburg yet, though the city is famous for its music traditions. Expoforum has corrected this historical injustice.

It’s symbolic that installation of the sculpture in the venue coincided with the jubilee of the virtuoso. In 2021, the world celebrates 265 years since the birth of Mozart.

Year 2021 is remarkable because of one more music jubilee. It’s the year of the 115th anniversary since the birth of Dmitri Shostakovich, one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. Dmitri Shostakovich is forever commemorated in the history of Russia and the Northern Capital of Russia: the St. Petersburg Philharmonia bears his name; streets and educational establishments are named after him; monuments and memorial boards are dedicated to him. The Leningrad Symphony is one of the greatest music pieces by Dmitri Shostakovich that premiered in the dreadful years of the Siege.

Two-meter high bronze sculptures of outstanding musicians were installed in Expoforum within the Multicultural Centre project. During the several years of its existence, the company has held thematic concerts of the Tavrichesky State Symphony orchestra of Leningrad oblast led by Principal Conductor Mikhail Golikov, a tradition of the company. Residents of St. Petersburg have done justice to the performances of classical music masterpieces in the hall with amazing acoustics. Now, during the concerts one can get additional aesthetic impressions while walking along the Music Passage.

Expoforum has well-established music tastes. Classical music accompanies all the events held in the Convention and Exhibition Centre. Broadcasting of symphonic pieces greet guests at the entrance to the complex.

The author of the figures is Arutyun Akobyan, St. Petersburg sculptor, a member of the Union of Artists of Russia.

Idea: Elena and Evgeny Ishmetyevs.
