The 3rd International innovation forum of passenger transport SmarTRANSPORT opened at Expoforum

The purpose of the Forum is to promote the development of municipal passenger transportation.

The 3rd International innovation forum of passenger transport SmartTRANSPORT 2017 opened on 18 October in the Expoforum convention and exhibition centre. This is an annual event for the entire Northwest transportation industry that occurs on the initiative of the St. Petersburg Transport Committee.

High-ranking guests spoke at the gala opening ceremony of the forum. Vice-governor of St. Petersburg, Sergey Movchan, greeted the event participants and guests on behalf of the Governor Georgy Poltavchenko and the city government.

“The Forum is dedicated to smart transport. Thismeans that we will never return to the past, to those uneconomical vehicles. You and I live under conditions of intense traffic and commuting. And the forum is the tribunal at which it is worth discussing and developing new technologies,” he noted and invited the guests to come to St. Petersburg: “Come to us and experience our transportation system!”

The CEO of ANO Transport Directorate of FIFA 2018 in the Russian Federation, Kirill Polyakov, greeted his colleagues on behalf of the Ministry of Transport of Russia.

“The Forum will become an effective discussion platform. Today, the Ministry of Transport is preparing actively for the World Football Championship. It is important for us to ensure not only a suitable level of organisation for the event, but also the highest quality of logistics,” he stated.

Vice-president of the All-Russian Society of the Blind, Lidiya Abramova, noted that the carriers in Russia have become more open and efficient than before. She stressed: “A lot has been done in Russia for accessibility and safety of transport. It is important that many solutions are being adopted only with the participation of experts and public organisations of the disabled.”

CEO of ExpoForum-International, Sergey Voronkov, congratulated the participants on the opening of the forum in which there were 100 exhibitors, 1,000 specialist delegates and over 3,500 visitors.

The Forum was opened with the holiday whistle of trolley busses and busses, exhibition exhibitors. The opening ceremony participants awarded a team of students from the University of Civil Aviation for winning the first city student Olympics to organise shipment on transport and the winners of the contest “Vote of Ground Passenger Municipal Transport,” which had 200 entries.

At the end of the opening ceremony, there was an official tour of the forum display. The guests were shown a tram  of a new generation Vityaz M produced by Metrovagonmash OJSC (Transmashholding). This is a noiseless tram in which the disabled can move about freely from the front to the back of the car. Vityaz was bought in 2016 by Moscow, St. Petersburg and Krasnodar; the cost of one tram varied from RUB67.5 million to RUB100 million. In Moscow, the launching of the noiseless tram Vityaz M, the route of which connected the Belorussky, Kazansky, Leningradsky and Yaroslavsky train stations was acknowledged by the citizens as one of the best innovations in the capital in the last three months.

The booth of Transmashkholding demonstrated the company's possibilities in the field of creating new rolling stock for municipal rail transport: subway and trolley cars. A little later at the booth of the St. Petersburg subway, a Cooperation Agreement was signed for information exchange about innovative methods of repair and maintenance of rolling stock between the Oktyabrsky Electric Railway Car Repair Plant (OEVRZ, St. Petersburg, is part of Transmashholding CJSC) and the St. Petersburg subway. The document was signed by the Executive Director of OEVRZ, Artem Ovelyan, and the Deputy Director of the St. Petersburg subway, Head of the Rolling Stock Service, Igor Shlendov.

GAZ Group is the largest producer of commercial transport in Russia and displayed several models of city busses at the exhibition. One of them, microbus GAZel NEXT, has a passenger section which holds 16 people. The section has panoramic windows ensuring visibility. In the passenger section, a high side door and low running board have been created for passenger convenience.

TheSt. Petersburg SUE Passazhiravtotrans demonstrated the electric bus Volgabus-5270E SitiRitm-12E. It had not been tested previously in Russia. The company is involved in testing innovations on one of the city routes at the end of October. The electric bus is capable of carrying up to 90 people and the running range with passengers and climate control engaged is 200 km.

The Head of the SUE St. Petersburg Metro, Vladimir Garyugin, demonstrated the possibilities of the “Shturman” [Navigator] system. It is already used on the “orange” line of the subway and controls the physical condition of the train drivers during motion.

Research Institute of Precision Mechanics JSC and Russian Engineering Society presented the “Strela” [Arrow] unmanned ground transport system, monorail transport that can be controlled by an automatic system and carry passengers without a machine operator. An experimental section of the system was built in the Moscow Region.

The company Stadler demonstrated a five-door trolley bus Chizhik, 34 metres long. This is a 3-section shuttle with low floor and doors on both sides. Inside, the passengers can charge gadgets and use Wi-Fi. The cars will carry citizens on the first private trolley route from the Ladoga train station to Khasanskaya St. already starting in November.

The 3rd International innovation forum of passenger transport SmartTRANSPORT 2017 will take place in ExpoForum from 18 through 20 October.

The key topics: digitalising transport, introducing IT-technologies into transport services, development of “green” transport using alternative energy sources, preparing the municipal transport infrastructure for the FIFA 2018 World Championship.

There are over 100 exhibitors on an area of 10,000 sq. metres, including Gorelektrotrans, Passazhiravtotrans, St. Petersburg Metro, Organizator perevozok (Transport Organiser), External Transport Agency, RIVC-Pulkovo and others.

Companies participate in the event from 60 Russian regions and 12 countries: France, Czech Republic, Finland, the Netherlands, Belarus, Serbia, Poland, Spain, Italy, Canada, China and Germany. Over 3,500 visitors are expected.
