“Hipposphere”, the biggest horse exhibition, opens at Expoforum

On April 30, the first day of spring holidays, the most important event for representatives of the horse industry and horse lovers opened in the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Center – the St. Petersburg International Horse Exhibition “Hipposphere”. Two modern riding halls have been laid out at the exhibition for the first time. More than 300 horses of 25 breeds are competing for the title of the Hipposphere Absolute Champion in the show ring. There are master classes for veterinarians, horse owners and visitors in the ring riding hall.  There is an exhibition of goods and services for horses and riders and an open stable, where visitors can get more closely acquainted with the horses, taking photos to remember their visit.

Alla M. Polzunova, Vice-President of the Non-Commercial Partnership the “Trotter Breeding Association of Russia”, welcomed guests at the official opening ceremony: “Each spring, horse lovers from all over the country come to the Hipposphere Exhibition, and this year, when the Orlov trotter celebrates its 240th anniversary, it’s a pleasure for me to see that so many horse lovers have come to the exhibition and that so many Orlov trotters are taking part in the ring riding”.

Alexander B. Perelman, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports, congratulated everyone present at the opening of the exhibition on behalf of Sergey Poltavchenko, the Governor of St. Petersburg. He emphasized that the Hipposphere Exhibition always serves the development of horse riding: competitions in dressage and the most spectacular kind of horse riding – show jumping – are held as part of the event. “Here we see horses, which our sportsmen will probably ride at the Olympic Games. Horse riding requires good promising horses today.”

In his turn, Egor V. Melentyev, head of the Horse Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia (MES), said that currently there are several search-and-rescue departments staffed with horses operating within the MES of Russia: horses are still in demand, and are used for state needs, including for such important measures as searching and rescue of people.

Sergey P. Alekseev, Vice-President of ExpoForum-International, said that Hipposphere is an annual festival for the whole family, which maintains traditions connected with horses and develops the culture of dealing with horses: “Here, residents of St. Petersburg get their first experience of horses, young sportsmen can show their skills in various horse riding disciplines, horse owners can present their horses, and visitors can learn more about these graceful and strong animals”.

The Hipposphere Exhibition is taking place at the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Center for the second time. This important St. Petersburg cultural event is visited annually by about 15,000 people.
