Heart problems are discussed in Expoforum

On 24 October, the Russian National Congress of Cardiologists, the country’s largest event, began in St. Petersburg. It has over 5,000 specialists participating from over 150 cities and 32 countries.

The greeting to the participants was given by the RF Minister of Health, Veronika Skvortsova. She thanked the cardiologists for their total dedication to work that permitted a significant reduction in the mortality rate from cardiovascular diseases in the country from 58% to 49%. Skvortsova also added that despite the positive trends in combatting heart diseases in our country, a deep inter-sector approach is needed. “We know in which direction we are moving further, the mechanism has been developed, and the regulatory base. Wehaverevitalised procedures for providing medical aid, and national clinical recommendations. It is important that all of these mechanisms operate efficiently in each region,” the Minister said.

The cardiologists who came to St. Petersburg to the convention for the second time were also greeted by the city Governor Georgy Poltavchenko. He noted that St. Petersburg has given birth to many modern sectors of medicine, including cardiology. “For the St. Petersburggovernment, innovative medicine was and remains one of the priority directions of work. Our common task is to create the conditions for introducing scientific discoveries into broad medical practice, and make high-tech assistance accessible,” Georgy Sergeevich stressed.

The congress scientific programme includes 184 events of varying format: lectures, plenary sessions, symposiums, young scientist contests, as well as schools for practising physicians. During the 3 days, 1,150 theses covering the most import problems of the industry will be heard.

Each of the delegates was given the unique opportunity not only to meet with Russian specialists, but also share experience with foreign colleagues. For example, specialists from the United States and Israel will hold a practical seminar on using simulation equipment. Simulators will be presented for diagnosis in cardiology, for developing manipulations in X-ray vascular surgery and screen simulators for developing clinical thinking.

The work of the congress is accompanied by an exhibition of medical equipment. Here are drugs, state-of-the-art technologies, medical items, specialised items and much more. Screenings are conducted here to determine risk factors for cardiovascular diseases: glucose and cholesterol blood level analyses, anthropometry and blood pressure measurements.

During the congress, a gala ceremony will be held to award the Prize of the Russian Cardiological Society. The social project of the RCS will also be presented “Concern Is…” aimed at preventing cardiovascular diseases and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

This is not the first time ExpoForum is the site for the meeting of medical workers from different fields of the industry. The Convention and Exhibition Centre has already received within its walls the congress of the Russian Society of Urologists “Urology in the 21st Century” and the Neva Radiological Forum. The European Congress of Perinatal Medicine will take place in 2018, and the World Congress of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons in 2020.
