Psychologists need a federal law
The capacity of the market for psychological services in Russia is 60 billion rubles, but consumers still have little understanding of the difference between a psychologist, coach and other specialists. This was discussed at the round table “Organization and development of the system of medical and psychological assistance to the population” within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Health Forum at the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Center.
The capacity of the market for psychological services in Russia is 60 billion rubles, said Alla Shaboltas, Dean of the Department of Psychology at St. Petersburg State University. It is obvious that the demand for psychological assistance, including remote one, will increase. In particular, about 15% of the total volume of psychological services is currently provided online, noted Alla Shaboltas.
The issue of the quality of psychological assistance remains relevant. This is partly due to the fact that the potential consumer of services does not understand the difference between a psychologist, coach and other specialists. At the same time, the market is oversaturated with various “experts”. The issue of the quality of education of psychologists is also important. “Why now go to study at universities for 7–8 years, especially in a legal vacuum, if you can quickly complete some courses and sell your services?” – Alla Shaboltas comments. She noted that the situation can be corrected by the development and adoption of a federal law that could streamline the activities of psychologists and other specialists in this field.
