“Nevsky Larets”: The Exceptional Blending of Modernity and Traditions.

The annual Exhibition of Folk Arts and Crafts “Nevsky Larets” (Neva Casket), which took place at Expo-Forum, obviously demonstrated the continuity of modern products of exclusive production and ancient craft traditions.

Every year, the exhibition is popular with the visitors with a special taste, who are looking for unique and exclusive products with the national flavor and masterful uniqueness.

More than 100 manufacturers of handicrafts, creative associations, artists, artisans and brands such as Mastersky Jeweler, Pskov Potter, Yakutsk Jeweler, Baikalia, Kuznitsa Yozh, Pskov Reznoy, Pomorsky Souvenirs” and many others.

For the fourth year already, the event has confirmed its reputation and credibility as a professional and creative platform for participants and visitors, experts in the folk arts and crafts industry display a unique selection of various products from regions and cities across Russia: Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Buryatia Republic, Tyumen region, Karelia Republic, Khanty-Mansiysk autonomy region, etc.

The entire palette of art and craft traditions of Russia was presented at the exhibition, delighting with bright hand-painted colors, openwork bone craving, and fur products.

Arkhangelsk Region was represented by the Kholmogorsk Bone Carving Factory with modern bone products, knives made from the Kuznitsa Yozh (Hedgehog Forge) from Severodvinsk, the Cherepanova and Partners Russian puppet manufactory, which produces Christmass tree toys and dolls made of cotton wool and potato starch with old Russian hand-made technologies. In addition, guests from this area told the recipe for the Arkhangels gingerbread “Kozul”, which firstly appeared in the 16th century.

The Russian-southern-style crafts were performed by the craftsmen and artisans from Sevastopol and Crimea Republic, showing exclusive products from natural gemstones: jasper, lapis lazuli, chalcedony which all made by the mosaic method, gifts and interior decorations, art objects and elements of landscape design, leather items, cloth, ceramics and unique products from the Crimean pebbles.

Sakha Republic (Yakutia) presented designer jewelry of modern and classic pattern, hand-made panels made of beads, paintings using the patchwork technique, national Yakut wooden jars for consuming kumis.

On the exhibition opening day, the results of the professional competition “Neva Casket – A view to the Future” (the theme of 2021 – “Overcoming Boarders”) were summed up, where the craftsmen presented their exclusive creations to the expert judges. Totally, 77 products have taken part in the competition.

In the master class zone, guests got acquainted with the traditions and secrets of hand work, created their own products on the advice of real craftsmen and took lessons in weaving, Petrikov painting, wood carving, as well as working with mosaics and making roses from cold porcelain.

“Nevsky Larets” is a unique project that carefully maintain the tie between craft traditions and modernity, creating a real atmospheric craft festival that is interesting for all ages and tastes.
