At SPIHF 2022, Vice-Governor of Saint Petersburg Ergashev became a virtual surgeon

The honored guests of the Saint Petersburg International Health Forum (PMFZ) were surprised by high technologies and unique, completely domestic developments.

More than 50 participants from the regions of Russia and the CIS member-countries gathered at the Medical Industry Exhibition to be held in framework of PMFZ-2022. There are also guests from far abroad; among them, the Saraya Japanese company that provides the wide range of antibacterial agents, special sanitary-hygienic equipment, beauty and health products. The official tour around the Exhibition began with visiting the company’s stand. Oleg Ergashev, Vice-Governor of Saint Petersburg, and Dmitry Lisovets, Chairman of the City Health Care Committee, were shown innovative dispensers for antiseptic and antibacterial agents.

The honored guests’ particular attention was attracted by the high-tech stand of the Techno-Medicine company. Its main feature was the unique device for teaching surgical manipulations, using virtual reality. Vice-Governor Ergashev personally tested the device, and performed a virtual operation on the knee joint. Oleg Nikolaevich highly appreciated the development and prospects of its application for educational purposes. In turn, the representative of the Techno Medicine Company said that they could write software for virtual modeling of absolutely any medical procedure.

Acquaintance with high technologies and digitalization in modern medicine continued at the stand of Okuskrin, the Skolkovo resident company. At the Exhibition, it presented the program for early diagnosis and prevention of eye diseases by using artificial intelligence. As the company’s representative explained to Dmitry Lisovets, the technology provides the widest possible amount of data, but their final interpretation still remains for a specialist who can use artificial intelligence as an assistant.

Due to modern economic realities, and the course for import substitution, Vice-Governor Ergashev was particularly interested in the percentage of domestic components and raw materials used in the presented technologies and goods. The Cross company turned out to offer carbon wheelchairs of 100% domestic production. Their unique feature is their ultralight weight (only 3 kg). And they are many times cheaper than foreign analogues, and provide for the option of connecting the electric drive. Ergashev highly appreciated this achievement of Russian engineers, and stated that their development has is of particular social importance because of the ongoing special military operation. The Vice-Governor also promised support in promoting the products in the domestic market.

The official tour around the exposition ended at the stand of the Techbionic company engaged in developing and producing bionic prostheses. The prostheses are controlled with the human brain signals, but there is also an option of controlling via a smartphone. The company’s capabilities make it possible to create both a prosthesis of the entire limb and one of a separate finger. Herewith, unlike many analogues, their artificial fingers consist of three phalanges, which allows simulating as accurately as possible human grip, freely grab and move objects.

Ergashev noted importance of such developments, though slightly scolded the company’s representative for the high percentage of imported components: processors, chips, etc. The Vice-Governor recommended gradually replacing them with domestic ones.

The Saint Petersburg International Health Forum takes place in the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre on October 25-27. See more details at the project’s official website.
