Young scientists are creating the future of Russia

The best opportunities for growing and developing young scientists were indicated by scientists from the Northwestern Federal District, Ryazan and Kaliningrad Regions, as well as other regions of Russia, at the Regional Forum of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of Agricultural Universities of the Northwestern Federal District «Implementation and Best Practices of Young Scientists’ Research Capacity for the Agroindustrial Complex of the Region» held as part of the AgroForum «Young Scientists and Active Youth. Development of the Agroindustrial Complex, Rural Tourism and Rural Areas» at the 33rd International Agroindustrial Exhibition «Agrorus» at the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Center.

Councils of Young Scientists (CYS) – platforms for developing interdisciplinary interaction of young university teachers, both within the same university and within the region, and even the country – are of great importance for increasing the capacity of institute and university youth.

According to Ilya Bogdanchikov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Deputy Chairman of the All-Russian Council of Young Scientists and Specialists for the Central Federal District, the CYS of P. A. Kostychev Ryazan State Agrotechnology University is more than 20 years: it was founded in May 2003 and provides opportunities not only for implementing scientific ideas, but also for young scientists’ career growth, disclosure of their scientific potential: some one of the CYS participants is a vice-rector, many of them head departments, faculties, various agricultural organizations.

It was the CYS representatives that the domestic intelligent geoinformation system (IGIS),
a new-generation system for collecting, managing and analyzing geospatial information for consumers in various fields, needing management and monitoring of their territories, have been developed by. The project manager Marcel Vagizov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Information Systems and Technologies, S. M. Kirov St. Petersburg State Forestry University, spoke told us about the opportunities for applying the IGIS in agriculture, for example, for analyzing agricultural and forest territories.

And P. A. Kostychev Ryazan State Agrotechnology University has developed the technology for introducing the experience of unmanned aerial vehicles to be used in the agroindustrial complex into the educational process.

«UAVs is one of the most promising areas in agriculture. By using drones, we can take aerial photographs, video, 3D terrain modeling, and spraying. When the drone flies around the area, we can see, without leaving our place, what the agricultural fields lack, for example, some fertilizers. Of course, this can be quickly adjusted», explains Anastasia Kuteynikova, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of P. A. Kostychev Ryazan State Agrotechnology University.

She closely works in this area with schoolchildren, who sometimes do not even realize how digitalized and modern agricultural professions are today.

In general, SMU seriously helps in career guidance. In the Kaliningrad Region, the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists unites several universities, which makes it possible to work together all over the region, and, inter alia, involve into the work schoolchildren. «We held a whole training shift for schoolchildren on the shore of the lake, where they can study its life and lives of its inhabitants; we hold «Scientific Lotto» with schoolchildren; organize the Open Astronomy Night on the embankment in the city center, and the Science Night in the central city library. And many other events that arouse schoolchildren’s great interest and helps them choose a profession», concludes Ekaterina Lyutova, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Head of the Department for Organizing Students’ Research Activities at Kaliningrad State Technical University.

The organizer of the AgroForum «Young Scientists and Active Youth. Development of the Agroindustrial Complex, Rural Tourism and Rural Areas» is ANO «SoBytie», in partnership with St. Petersburg State Agricultural University, St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation, and the Russian Union of Rural Youth. The AgroForum is held with the support of the Committee on Youth Policy and Interaction with Public Organizations.
