MEGUSTRO 2018: 1.5 Times More Feelings of Deliciousness

November 7 was marked with the opening of MEGUSTRO – the most delicious festival in EXPOFORUM and the main event in the Russian HORECA industry. In three days over 90 masterclasses and roundtable discussions dedicated to gastronomy took place. Visitors were told about flavor memory, given advice on how to tame a taco, taught to believe in vegetables and to eat with their hands.

Jerry Calmis, Director General of Metro Cash&Carry, welcomed participants at the official opening ceremony: “Today we are glad to open the second MEGUSTRO festival. Metro’s mission is to unite and develop the HORECA market and the hospitality industry. This festival has become the venue for enabling integration and progression of small and medium sized business, which is a primary part of the industry.

Sergey Volkov, Deputy Director General of EXPOFORUM International, noted that St. Petersburg is not just a capital for tourism, but also for gastronomy. More than 10,000 cafes and restaurants for any taste and budget operate here: “I’m glad to congratulate everyone that the event has become 1.5 times bigger. During these three days we will be able not only to obtain new contacts, enjoy the excellenct work of our participants, find partners, and chew the fat on the future of the restaurant business, but also to gain some vivid emotions and inspiration.”

Elgiz Kachaev, Chairman of the Committee for Development of Entrepreneurship and Consumer Market of St. Petersburg, greeted participants on behalf of the Government of the city. He said that in the last 20 years the tourism market had been developing intensively in St. Petersburg, particularly gastronomic tourism. “What you do at this event is very important for small business, the growth of companies and professional advancement of HORECA employees. From our side we will support development of this branch in every possible way,” Elgiz Kachaev addressed organizers of the festival.

7 thematic venues started operating at the festival today. This year new formats of thematic blocks are presented to participants. The LIVE TALK-SHOW is dedicated to showing interviews with owners and chefs of famous restaurants. Visitors will ask gurus of the gastronomic business the hottest questions. The MANAGEME format comprises discussion sessions for business administrators, managers and owners, where they learn all insights of leading HORECA experts. MARKETINGME + PRME will share secrets of both traditional and the latest marketing techniques with visitors.

And as is traditional at MEGUSTRO, the Chefs Challenge– gastronomic battles between chefs from St. Petersburg and from Red Michelin Guide restaurants – will take place. The regional round of the Chef a la Russe Championship, for chefs from St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, also started today.

Companies presented a whole range of products at the exhibition: from Ladoga alcoholic drinks and seafood from Delikates 74 crab factory up to technical production and OMA ceramica crockery.
The doors of MEGUSTRO Festival opened for each and every gastronomy aficionado. The event was organized by METRO Cash&Carry in cooperation with ExpoForum International. The exhibition was open through November 9; for more information see the website of the event.
