There will be no corrosion if Russian coatings are used

Specifics of applying anticorrosive coatings in the industry were discussed by the participants of the session «Protective Coatings and Corrosion Inhibitors» as part of the conference «Topical Issues of Rustproofing». Russian manufacturer have a lot to tell about their own know-how in this field.

This is the first session of the Scientific and Practical Conference «Topical Issues of Rustproofing» as part of the International Exhibition «Rustproofing – 2024». There is a rather active import substitution in this segment, and the session participants were willing to share their achievements.

For example, Vasily Bocharov, the General Director of Zinker LLC, told about the technology developed by his company that is an alternative to the hot galvanizing. A zinc layer resulting from applying the Zinker composition contains more than 90% of the stabilized zinc. It protects iron or any other metal by chemical-electric method. If you treat a surface with this composition for an hour, you can get a coating that will serve for up to 30 years, Vasily Bocharov underlined.

Other types of anticorrosive coatings were described by Yury Smolsky, Adviser to the General Director of Technological Systems of Protective Coatings (TSPC), LLC. The company produces metallized sacrificial coatings (MSC).
MSC initially appeared in the West and now they are widely used in Japan, the USA, Norway, in particular, on the drilling rigs. MSCs are also usefully applied in Russia. For instance, a TSPC-made coating proved to be good at Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant. The advantage of such MSCs is that they can be applied on parts of any size, and they also can be used on the territory of enterprises and on site, Yury Smolsky emphasized. After a number of research works, TSPC entered into an agreement for supply of its coatings to the drilling rig of Gazprom. Based on the testing results, the coating should properly protect the facility from corrosion for the period of up to 37 seasons. «Our coating is a little bit more costly than the zinc or varnish and paint one when being applied, but it has a number of advantages in the long run», Yury Smolsky specified.

Ilya Ivanov, the Electrochemical Protection Line Manager of Metaclay JSC, talked about the use of powder polyethylene coatings. The coating «Kolchuga» (Chain mail) developed by the company protects the pipes from corrosion and mechanical impact. He noted that the majority of underwater crossings on pipelines are exposed to mechanical damages, and it is very important to protect them. Metaclay strategic partners are Severstal and Volga Pipe Plant. In particular, the company’s protective coatings were used during construction of the second string of South Stream gas pipeline.
Territory LLC is also actively involved in the import substitution in terms of anticorrosive coatings. Andrey Zalepukhin, the Head of the Sales Department of the said company, noted that after Russia was left by such manufacturers as Jotun and Henkel Territory itself started to manufacture protective compositions. They are already applied in Moscow Metro and at different metalwork plants.

The experience in manufacture of anticorrosive varnish and paint materials was outlined by Maria Pyrova, Senior Technical Specialist of Russian Paints JSC and by representatives of Pigment Holding.
