The Industry for a Hollywood Smile
As is well known, the first school where doctors of stomatology were trained opened in St. Petersburg in 1881. As the years have passed, medicine has moved light years forward, a “Hollywood smile” is no longer a problem and the industry itself creates its own largescale branch-wise congresses and exhibitions.
On October 27–29, united dentistry exhibitions Stomatology/Dental-Expo Saint Petersburg took place in Pavilion H of EXPOFORUM, where experts shared the most update information about today’s major trends of development of the industry.
The first day was dedicated to the Dentist Club communication venue – authorial lectures and workshops for dental therapists, orthodontists, dental technicians, hygienists, periodontists and general practitioners. A list of speakers included Nikolai Batyukov, PhD in Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the General Dental Department of the St. Petersburg Institute of Postgraduate Education in Dentistry; Larisa Topcheenko, a Leading Specialist of DENCO, an official representative of BISCO on the territory of the Russian Federation; Irina Zavyalova, dental therapist, endodontist-microscopist, a member of HI-OHI-S international conventions, a member of the Russian Dental Association (StAR), and others.
On October 28, the 16th International Research-to-Practice Conference “Pediatric Dentistry and Prevention of Dental Disorders” took place. Professor Larisa Kiselnikova, MD, Russia’s envoy to the Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, a member of the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry and the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry; Yana Sedneva, Chief Pediadontist of St. Petersburg and the Northwestern Federal District, and others spoke at the Conference. Also, a certification workshop was organized by EUROKAPPA, a leading Russian manufacturer of aligners. Lyudmila Kutumova, author of guidance manuals in orthodontics, practicing orthodontist, Clinical Director of EUROKAPPA, served as a speaker.
In the final day participants of Dentist Club discussed risks in the work of medical personnel and ways to minimize them. Ivan Sigachev, Head of the Medical Division of Technoavia – Saint Petersburg, moderated the event. 17 events took place in the framework of the Business Program over 3 days.
This year, over 60 companies have taken part in exhibitions to show dental technology equipment and equipment for dental laboratories, dental units, disinfecting agents, orthodontic and composite materials, surgical instruments, impression compounds, cements, systems for teeth whitening, tools and many other things. The exhibition area of 1,800 sq. m occupied with the dentistry exhibition was visited by more than 2,000 people.
In terms of social significance the profession of a dentist will always occupy solid positions in a list of all occupations, and the interest in such events as Stomatology/Dental-Expo Saint Petersburg proves it!
