Expoforum coming to a movie theatre near you

On 4 June, the latest film by Alexei German Jr., Under Electric Skies, is slated for release. The picture was featured in the main competition programme at the 65th Berlin Film Festival and garnered a Silver Bear for outstanding achievement in the cinematic arts. Filming took place in the fall and winter of 2013 on ExpoForum grounds and in the vicinity of the exhibition complex – on the hills of Pulkovo Heights.

A number of the film’s extended scenes feature the ExpoForum buildings at the time of their active construction. According to director Alexei German Jr., the facilities were depicted in the film insofar as they vividly represent some of the best examples of modern European-class architecture.

The film is set in 2017, just as the world is dreading the outbreak of large-scale war. The heroes of the seven vignettes are leading completely different lives, but each of them, as expressed by classic Russian literature, are clearly “expendable.” The movie explores their lives, challenges and struggle to survive against the backdrop of an unfinished building with which their disparate fates are inextricably linked.
