Ecology – outlook of the future!

This is the motto for upcoming event – unique forum for the North-West Federal Region dedicated to environmental protection, rational usage of natural resources, ecological equipment, technologies and services – XX International forum “Ecology of a big city” is about to take place from 23 to 25 March.

The purpose of the forum – promotion and implementation in Russia innovations of environmental protection equipment and technologies, that help to save natural resources, strengthen ecological safety, improve quality of life of inhabitants of big cities. National project “Ecology” provide support for the event.

“Ecology of a big city” is full of events: in three days 28 roundtables to happen, breakout sessions, conferences, master classes and seminars. The key events will be the plenary session "Ecology - a look into the future", the Japanese-Russian interregional environmental conference "Clean Sea", the round table "Sustainable development of the urban environment", the meeting of the international coordinating council on green modernization and green financing "Green modernization and financing", round table "Green business", conference "Results of the guillotine: management of production and consumption waste, including solid wastes", conference "Reform of the system of mandatory requirements of environmental legislation."

Traditionally, the project will host an interregional conference "Best practices in the development of educational tourism and volunteering in specially protected natural areas of federal and regional significance", which annually brings together representatives of specially protected areas from different regions. Specialists from the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Ugra, the Republics of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Karelia, Kaliningrad, Sverdlovsk, Kaluga, Kurgan and Leningrad regions and others have confirmed their participation.

This year the conference will be accompanied by a specialized exhibition "Material and technical support of specially protected natural areas", which will be attended by Sorokoput and Formosa-Service. Companies will demonstrate devices for autonomous photo and video recording, solutions for power supply based on renewable energy sources, autonomous power boxes for various equipment, as well as complex modern solutions in the IT field: from simple accounting automation to building regional systems for automated remote monitoring of forest fires.

Forum “Ecology of a big city” will confirm its international status. It will be held in a hybrid format. Specialists from Australia and Germany will join the business program online. The exposition at the stand of the St. Petersburg Association for Environmental Partnership will feature 14 participants from Finland with Russian-Finnish environmental projects.

A large regional representation is expected from all over the country - from the North-West to Siberia and the Far East, Crimea. Experts from St. Petersburg, Leningrad region, Moscow, Novokuibyshevsk, Cherepovets, Stavropol, Sochi, Pskov, Kirov, Apatitov, Khanty-Mansiysk, Norilsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Smolensk, Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Veliky Novgorod, Voronezh, Perm, Perm, have already confirmed their participation.

An integral part of the event will traditionally be the XXI International Environmental Forum “Baltic Sea Day”, which reflects current environmental trends in the region and highlights the results of international projects (NarvaWatMan, EnviTox, BSR Water, “Baltic Industrial Symbiosis”), implemented with the support of cross-border cooperation programs and the INTERREG Program Baltic Sea. The panel discussion on the implementation of the HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan is being worked out from the point of view of a region-wide process of updating this document and its subsequent implementation until 2030. The Forum is supported by HELCOM, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, the Government of St. Petersburg and other organizations.
