Long-awaited offline meeting fuel and energy specialists
On April 21-23, 2021, Expoforum hosted the IX Russian International Energy Forum - one of the key business events in the fuel and energy sector. This year, the RIEF attracted more than 900 delegates, the event was attended by 5,000 people, including participants from France, Italy, Slovakia, the USA, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and the Republic of Belarus. More than 200 speakers presented their reports.
RIEF-2021 events were held in person, some of the speakers joined the Forum online. For three days of work, 18 business events were held, among them 2 international conferences were held.
Opening the Forum, Sergei Dregval, Vice Governor of St. Petersburg, noted: “In the Russian economy, the fuel and energy complex occupies an essential place and plays the role of a basic infrastructure, the main task of which is to provide maximum assistance to the socio-economic development of the country. I believe that the Forum's business program fully reflects the key priorities for the development of the Russian energy sector. I am sure that the largest industry players, international experts, equipment manufacturers and government officials at the Forum will be able to discuss the most important tasks facing the fuel and energy complex today. "
The transition of the European Union to a climate-neutral level by 2050, the introduction of cross-border carbon regulation and a reduction in the volume of exports of Russian producers were discussed by the participants of the plenary session "Russian energy - the basis for long-term sustainable development of Russia". The event was moderated by Alexandra Panina, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Energy Producers Council Association. Within the framework of the round table "Intelligent metering and information security in the power grid complex" experts discussed the features of information protection in intelligent electricity metering systems, presented proposals for improving accounting legislation, formed as a result of the enforcement of by-laws to 552-FZ.
The application of innovations and technologies of French companies in Russia was discussed by specialists during the Franco-Russian Forum: Green Energy, dedicated to the topic of renewable energy sources. The participants identified the potential for cooperation in the field of green energy, ecology and energy efficiency between Russia and France. The speakers of the forum were Pascal Slivansky, Consul General of France in St. Petersburg, Rafael Zohrabyan, Director of Legal Affairs and Interaction with Authorities of Saint-Gobain in Russia, Vitaly Bogachenko, Director of Corporate Relations at LafargeHolcim in Russia, Nikolay Mazaev, Commercial Director of B2B Michelin in the East European region, Alexey Parshikov, director of business development of Electroshield - TM Samara JSC, Nikolay Popov, general director of Hevel Retail LLC.
The plans for cooperation in the field of energy between Russia and Kazakhstan were discussed by experts at the conference "Cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan: a common energy strategy in the context of the challenges of the post-coronavirus era".
Mikhail Smirnov, Chairman of the Russian-Kazakhstani Business Council, President of the Association of Innovative Enterprises in the Energy Industry "EnergoInnovatsiya", turned to the annual Address of the President of the Russian Federation, which was announced the day before: “The environmental agenda was supported three times. Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed the importance of new technologies. Much today depends on the local authorities. The situation is the same in the West. Everything comes from the strategy of the cities themselves, management approaches. It is very important that in our cities - Kazakhstan and Russia - we could implement such projects that others would be equal to ”.
During the round table "Sustainable Development Goals and the Long-Term Impact of ESG Factors on the Future of the Russian Energy Industry", the participants assessed the readiness of the domestic energy sector for a global energy transition, the possibilities of "green financing", and the development of renewable energy.
Experts spoke about the interest in “own energy generation” and tariff regulation in 2021 at the round table “Tariff regulation in the fuel and energy sector”. As Sergey Rozhenko, Deputy Director of the Practice for Work with Companies in the Energy and Utilities Sector of KPMG in Russia and the CIS, noted, the past year has become a turning point not only for various sectors of the economy, but also for the power industry.
And it's not just about a pandemic. According to him, the trend of “green energy” is clearly traced: “Last year, our companies only heard about environmental topics, now many are starting to think about it seriously. First of all, these are exporters. In foreign markets, there has been a trend towards globalization of tariffs and, accordingly, someone's refusal to use "green technologies" will affect the tariff component. Such questions will increasingly come to the fore ”.
At the international specialized exhibition "Energy and Electrical Engineering" equipment, technologies and achievements of the fuel and energy complex were presented by leading companies from Russian regions, the Republic of Belarus and Poland.
