«Vladimir Heavy Drafts are a unique Russian breed that needs to be preserved and developed. Its preservation is my lifework», says Natalia Goltsova, owner of the farm «Atlantes of the Northern Capital».

According to her, there are only 200 female horses of this breed left in the world.

The Vladimir Heavy Draft looks like a heroic horse to be depicted by Russian artists: it is tall, with thick mane and shaggy legs in white «socks».

«Vladimir Heavy Drafts are horses suitable for any discipline at the amateur level. They are versatile, quite mobile, energetic. They are very soulful animals to be focused on humans. They are easy to work with, they are gregarious. This is the kindest breed», describes Natalia Goltsova the horses.

In Russia, breading the Vladimir Heavy Draft started in the second half of the 19th century, simultaneously with importing into our country European Heavy Drafts – Clydesdales, Shires. Initially, it was assumed for Vladimir Heavy Drafts to be used for transportation of goods as their breed name implies.

Thus, this breed was widely used in agriculture, horse-drawn transport, and the army. Now Vladimir Heavy Drafts are used for horseback riding.
