Sergey Voronkov told about congress and exhibition future of St. Petersburg at the Echo of Moscow

On March 16, 2012 the Executive Director of ExpoForum CJSC, General Director of Lenexpo JSC Sergey Voronkov, was a guest of the live radio station "Echo of Moscow in St. Petersburg". The topic of live broadcast was "Future of St. Petersburg: exhibition capital or exhibition province?"

According to Sergey Voronkov, today St. Petersburg is already a congress capital of Russia, but the city shall continue its development: it shall become one of the European leaders and get into the top ten convention centers of Europe. There are some circumstances that interfere with this process and do not allow to hold global congresses in the northern capital.

"First of all, it is lack of necessary infrastructure, of modern congress and exhibition complex, which could receive delegations of three thousand people and more. The Lenexpo areas are not enough for this any more. A number of participants of the largest event held at this exhibition complex - St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) - is about 2500 delegates. In fact, it's both maximum capacity of the exhibition center, and maximum capacity of the city. During the SPIEF the city makes strenuous efforts in terms of the airport, hotels, roads, etc. To date, the goal is to hold at least 3-5 global congresses in St. Petersburg annually with a number of participants from 4000 to 7000 delegates, "- said Sergey Voronkov.

He also noted that the city has possibilities and potential for this. At the moment active construction of the modern congress and exhibition center "ExpoForum" is performed, which will be completed in late 2013. And in 2014 the complex will host events of fundamentally different international level.

Another requirement that shall be met, according to Sergey Voronkov, to turn St. Petersburg into the leading congress center of Europe - is creation of support infrastructure that is Congress Bureau, which would coordinate activities of all interested parties: city government, air carriers, hotels, congress halls, exhibition complexes, etc.

 - As for exhibitions, in terms of area and number of participants, we are 4 times behind Moscow. In the near future we won't be able to get up to the capital, but we can double volume of the market in 4-6 years, and held not 60, but 120 events a year. And it's a real task - Sergey Voronkov is sure.
