Scientists from the Almazov Center at the St. Petersburg International Health Forum (SPIHF-2023) shared their forecast for the growth of the market for personalized medicine products to almost $700 billion in 2033.

The global market for personalized medicine products will more than double in 10 years, from $326 billion in 2022 to $690.5 billion in 2033. This forecast was shared today at the round table “The transition to personalized medicine – myth or reality” by Aleksandra Konradi, the Deputy General Director for Scientific Work of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Almazov National Medical Research Center” of the Ministry of Health of Russia, head of the Arterial Hypertension Research Department, head of the Department of Organization of Management and Healthcare Economics of the Institute of Medical Education of the Almazov Center, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

She noted that personalized medicine allows for better treatment. For example, typing a breast tumour makes it possible to administer chemotherapy more effectively. This practice can reduce the need to take toxic medications by 43%, she said. The scientist emphasized that society needs to reassess the concept of evidence-based medicine.
