Economy is Becoming Human-Centered

On February 21, St. Petersburg International Labor Forum and PMS EXPO Exhibition were opened at the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Center.

The Chair of the St. Petersburg Committee on Labor and Employment of Population Dmitry Cherneyko was the first to take the floor.

“Economy is becoming human-centered. Each year a human being becomes more and more valuable both literally and figuratively. We should take care of people, increase the safety culture, lower staff shortage. I hope, the Labor Forum and the PMS EXPO Exhibition will shape the understanding how we should achieve such objectives. Today, if we focus on staff shortage, we will not solve this task. It is necessary to manage the level of employment, the quality of human capital,” Cherneyko said.

Nikolay Krivozertsev, General Director of EcoStandard group, noted that the Labor Forum and the PMS EXPO Exhibition have considerably developed since 2017. The key issues of the Russian economy, that is staff shortage and increase in labor productivity, are being discussed at the events.

The Editor-In-Chief of EcoStandard.journal Artem Krylov pointed out that the subjects brought up at the Labor Forum and the PMS EXPO are relevant for the development of the country.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Olga Kondratyeva, General Director of the National Occupational Safety Association, Vladimir Kotov, President of the Association of Developers, Manufacturers and Suppliers of Personal Protective Equipment and Denis Smirnov, Deputy Head of the State Labor Inspection in St. Petersburg .

Sergey Voronkov, General Director of the EXPOFORUM International, spoke at the end.

“The main challenge that the national economy faces now is the issue of human resources. There is a battle for personnel, demand exceeds supply, wages grow. Retention of employees is a major problem for the companies. Even the wages are not the key criterion for choosing a place of employment. A safety issue in the broadest sense is now prevailing. This means understanding of how a company develops, a guarantee of position retention, a benefits package and, of course, occupational health and safety. These are the basic factors of competitive ability.

That is why new formats are being actively developed in the convention and exhibition sphere – contests and championships of professional excellence, professional corporate forums, which enable the companies to increase the loyalty and involvement of personnel, reduce the staff turnover,” Voronkov said.

After the opening ceremony, the cooperation agreements between the EXPOFORUM International, National Occupational Safety Association and EcoStandard.journal were signed.

Upon completion of the ceremony the speakers and the development director of Avito.job Dmitry Puchkov had a talk with journalists.

“We see that today the number of job seekers who enter the market just to find a job is less by 45 %. However, the number of vacancies has increased by 69 % over the year. Now we have classic scissors – growing demand and decreasing activity of job applicants. The most severe shortage can be observed in the production industry. About 80 % of enterprises in this sphere have found themselves experiencing staff scarcity. The platform of the Labor Forum and the PMS EXPO will join together the efforts of three key players of the labor market – the state, business and scientific institutions – to solve these issues,” Puchkov said.

The PMS EXPO Exhibition and the International Labor Forum are held at the EXPOFORUM from February 21 to February 22. Over 10 thousand specialists will visit the site for 2 days. There are more than 30 events on the business program. More than 50 companies from 10 Russian regions are taking part in the exhibition.
